Well, yes. A proper post was in the offing when I got back, and I had even started drafting a horror festival round up of the year complete with awards (on the grounds that it’s my blog and I’ll write what I like, plus anybody wanting to read a load of old cack about how we prossies do nothing else ever bar sit about waiting for people to come and have sex with us because we are all Unbelievably Supa Hornee 24 Hours A Day!!! should know by now they’re on the wrong profile) but then the week we’ve just had happened and all of a sudden it’s Saturday evening, the bags are packed and I’ll be setting off for That London in twelve hours or so. Gosh.

I had far too fabulous a time in Sheffield to just skim past it here and the Celluloid Screams folk deserve far more plaudits than I have time to write for not just the best programme all year (OK, a draw with Dead By Dawn) but a stupidly-great venue in the Showroom, which I envied from the outset and look forward to returning to next year plus a 100% mobile phone blackout (at least in front of me) – result! The programme included not only another chance to see my favourite film all year again in He Never Died, currently trying to raise enough on Indiegogo for a US cinema release if anybody wants to help and fancies the digital download (seriously though, don’t watch the trailers unless you want it completely ruined), but a truckload of belting stuff from all ends of the budget spectrum, fabby short films and not only that, my only walkout of the year so far! But it’ll have to wait.

To business: next incall availability in Scarborough, complete with drizzle, wet leaves (if you saw that person in the furry parka slip and nearly fall over on the Esplanade, it categorically was probably not me) and being dark enough to require the curtains pulling by 3pm will be Thursday and Friday next week and that’s it before I stagger off to New York (in search of drier leaves, amongst other things); Tuesday will be the House of Commons meeting (all welcome – for info search for ‘ECP Decriminalisation event or just look on the ECP site) and Wednesday will be mostly spent asleep on the big settee next to an empty bargain bucket, which I plan to eat in the bath. No calls, please.

That’s it for now, but due to popular demand – the vegan brownie recipe! No fewer than eleven people have asked (I didn’t even know that many people read the blog) so rather than continue with the copypasting – and considering how the next couple of days is looking there won’t be time anyway – here it is for everybody!

These brownies use flax eggs instead of egg eggs, which means you need ground flax seed (aka linseed) but it’s not hard to get and I just grind the seeds in my nutribullet. You will also need dairy free marg like Vitalite (and who else is old enough to remember the song!) or Pure and a set of US cup measures as well as spoon measures.

2 flax eggs (1 tbsp ground flaxseed/3 tbsp water each)
1 stick (113g) dairy free butter
3/4 cup of plain flour
3/4 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt

Make up the flax eggs and leave to gel for a few minutes – meanwhile melt the butter in the microwave, then mix with flax eggs and stir in the vanilla. Mix together all the dry ingredients in a bowl and then just stir in the liquid ones – that’s it! You can mix other stuff in at this point too (I’ve used dried cherries which was pretty good, and you can put chocolate chips in you’re not bothered about them being vegan).

This makes about 8 – if you look at the picture you’ll see there’s a baby one. Bake in a well oiled muffin tray at 180 for about 18 minutes or until they’re coming away from the sides of the pans (I check at 15 minutes; better slightly under than over and a bit of inner sog is no bad thing).

More next week – promise. London, see you soon!
