sick and tired…
Well predictably, any ideas about birthday celebrating went out of the window when what began with a nasty headache and faint general feeling of shivery, not-very-well nausea around mid-afternoon on Saturday (enough, thankfully, to stop me actually travelling anywhere and spending money on anything) escalated to full-on, violent, hell hath no fury, food poisoning (presumably, although expecting to be dining out later all I had eaten all day was a bacon sandwich, a raw carrot and some grapes) some four hours later, which lasted all night Saturday, throughout Sunday and is still making it’s presence felt today, although I suspect any ongoing feelings of malaise will be less to do with lingering bugs and more to do with the fact that I have been unable to eat and hang on to anything other than two Weetabix with plain water since Saturday afternoon. T’riffic.
On the plus side, I have lost 6 lbs of weight in two days, and discovered cherry-orange electrolyte sports drinks (the only thing other than water and Weetabix which has stayed put since around four pm on Saturday), which I am developing something of a fondness for and have helpfully kept me replete with the necessary sugar, salt and water levels to avoid fainting/tumbling down the stairs/shrivelling up with dehydration until I resemble a pickled walnut. The next step is to be a small bowl of plain boiled rice, possibly with frozen peas and maybe even a bit of soy (followed by an hour or so of camping nervously outside the bathroom door in my dressing gown with my sports drink, big cushion and trusty Kindle by my side). A banana, if I can stagger as far as the shop without incident.
Needless to say, I am not likely to be available for appointments until Wednesday or Thursday at the earliest – a decent night’s sleep is the current priority; a couple of days of bland and wholesome diet will hopefully leave me sparkling with health and vitality by then and very much back on form, but I am not making any promises and proper recovery in time for my London trip next week is far more important – sorry! So to this week in summary, unpredictable really but any bookings made after Thursday should (hopefully) be fine. London availability is now almost gone; anybody wanting Thursday or Saturday afternoon may be in luck, but that’s about it I’m afraid, apart from a couple of breakfast slots for the very intrepid (and naturally there’s always one or two!)
As ever, the best way is to email and ask but I should apologise in advance for any cancellations I may have to make – I intend to honour appointments as far as I can, but I cannot (and wouldn’t) work in my current state, and anybody who has ever copped for a hefty dose via a misjudged snack will know exactly what I mean.
Am off to boil some rice. Fingers crossed!
